Dating back to around 1700, The Old Forge is steeped in local history. Once the workshop of the village wheelwright and carriage builder, it now offers a warm and welcoming retreat in the heart of the Dorset countryside. We have two beautifully renovated guest rooms tucked beneath original beams — full of charm, comfort, and character.

Our beautiful dining room is yours to enjoy at your leisure — whether you're sharing a relaxed breakfast or a cosy evening in. The dining table even transforms into a small pool table for a bit of fun after hours.

Breakfast

Wake up to the comforting warmth of an Aga and the irresistible aroma of a home-cooked, locally sourced breakfast. Our generous full English features the freshest eggs — sunshine on a plate — from our free-ranging hens, Saddleback sausages and bacon, local mushrooms, and vine-ripened tomatoes.

Enjoy freshly baked five-seed or white sourdough bread, served with local honey from just down the lane and a selection of regional preserves. Prefer something lighter? Try our fluffy drop scones or mix and match to create your perfect start to the day.

We proudly source the best local ingredients — always organic or free-range — and operate a pre-order system to ensure everything is cooked fresh, just the way you like it.

We’re passionate about protecting the planet and proud to run The Old Forge with sustainability at its heart. Our aim is to leave the lightest possible footprint — nothing is wasted, and everything is reused or recycled wherever possible.

We make a conscious effort to avoid buying new, choosing instead to repurpose, upcycle, and support second-hand wherever we can. All of our household products, from refillable soaps to plastic-free loo rolls, are eco-friendly and responsibly sourced.

We warmly encourage our guests to join us in these efforts — small choices really do make a big difference.

Cancelation policy

You may cancel your booking free of charge up to 7 days before 10:00 PM on the day of check-in.
Cancellations made less than 7 days before 10:00 PM on the day of check-in will be charged 100% of the booking total.
